STOCKIES WINNER – SUPER SURFER
Surf’s up!
Laura Pittas from Highgate IT was one of the individual winners at the Stock in the Channel Awards – aka The Stockies – showing the value of standing out from the crowd.
Laura Pittas, account director at Highgate IT, scooped the Super Surfer award at the 2025 edition of The Stockies and here she explains more about the fast-paced nature of her work, and how she built a successful career in the channel. News in the Channel: What does winning the Super Surfer award mean to you? Laura Pittas: It means a lot. I deal with a high volume of incoming quotes and orders and often work at a fast pace due to how busy the role can be, so it’s really rewarding to see that getting recognised. I don’t think people always see or fully understand just how busy it can be day to day, with things constantly coming in and needing a quick turnaround. I’m quite detail oriented and like to stay close to my business to make sure everything is being handled properly and nothing gets missed. It’s motivated me to keep
pushing myself to do more and continue improving the quality and consistency of my work. Was it a surprise when you were announced? LP: Yes, I was really shocked and very nervous to be honest. I was expecting to turn around and go home before the winner was announced as I don’t like being the centre of attention. When my name was called, I was really surprised. It also made me realise just how busy things are day to day, and grateful that the work I’m putting in hasn’t gone unnoticed. How did you get involved in sales/ account management? LP: I studied IT and psychology at A-Level and had an interest in technology from a young age. My original dream job was to be a TV sales presenter, like you see on QVC. While that didn’t quite happen, I did some telesales work while studying and really enjoyed it. I found I was really good at it. From there, I started my career in the print and supplies side of the industry working for Ricoh. It wasn’t something that was really planned at the time, but one opportunity led to another, and I gradually moved into IT reseller world, which is where I am today.
