One step ahead

AI is revolutionising the number and scale of cyberthreats businesses face, but it is also a vital part of the fightback against it, and resellers must ensure they remain at the cutting edge to keep customers safe.

Cybersecurity has been a growing problem for businesses of all sizes for many years, and the advent of AI has only exacerbated matters, meaning resellers and managed service providers (MSPs) are on the frontline of keeping customers protected. Although as Scott Rogers, senior business unit director – security at TD SYNNEX, says, AI is amplifying existing cyberthreats rather than creating a new threat category. “We’re already seeing significant phishing, identity and ransomware disruption, all of which are growing due to AI,” he adds. “The government’s 2025/26 UK Cyber Security Breaches Survey found that 43% of businesses and 28% of charities had identified a cyber breach or attack in the previous 12 months, equating to around 669,000 organisations. Phishing was the dominant form of attack type, rated as the most disruptive breach by 69% of those affected. “The same survey found that around 31% of businesses were using, adopting or considering AI, but only 24% of that group had cybersecurity practices or processes in place to manage AI-related risks. There is a clear customer-readiness gap here for MSPs and resellers to address. To do that effectively, they need to lead with resilience and cut through the hype.
