2024 PREVIEW
What’s in store for ’24? As it is a new year, we have gathered various thought leaders in the channel to give their opinion on what 2024 may hold for them and the wider channel.
hope 2024 follows 2023 in being relatively ‘normal’ – we can look ahead to what we could see in the channel in the coming 12 months. There is plenty to look forward to, such as a predicted recovery in the economy and the continued development of the service model, as well as the significance of artificial intelligence (AI), among many others. Below follows the thoughts of a range of thought leaders covering a range of aspects of the channel about what 2024 could bring in terms of economic performance, trends and products.
Making predictions is notoriously difficult. There is a famous quote: ‘it is difficult to make predictions, especially about the future’ which has been attributed to various people, including baseball player Yogi Berra and quantum physicist Niels Bohr. The past few years have shown this to be painfully true – who among us foresaw a global pandemic four years ago? Or a Russian invasion of Ukraine? Or any of the other myriad events that have happened? But unknown unknowns aside – and lets Tim Griffin , CEO, Exertis IT I am optimistic about the prospects for Exertis and for the channel in 2024. The wonderful thing about our industry is that tech never stands still for long, and we are on the edge of several inflection points that will drive business for the channel in the coming years. For example, I think the refresh cycle, buoyed by AI innovation at the PC coalface, and a recovering economy coupled with political uncertainty will be key themes for the year.
The economy will remain central to the recovery, but I suspect that the government will hope to get lucky with bouncing economic activity in the first half, and so delay the election as long as possible – but any political uncertainty may delay a recovery if it is not already underway early in 2024. In the channel in 2024, I think the integration of technologies will create a step change for devices, with PC and mobile capabilities making a leap forward that will drive ambition, if not disruption.

David Watts , senior vice president and regional managing director, UK and Ireland, TD SYNNEX We are cautiously optimistic about the prospects for 2024. CONTEXT has
strategy. We do see AI playing an important role and being one of the factors driving hardware upgrades. AI has already shown its disruptive potential and I think we’ll see further significant developments here. I’d also expect to see further interest in IoT and data analytics. Sustainability in IT is a major theme and one that we see becoming more and more important to partners and their customers. There will be more discussion and desire for positive action to drive the circular economy for technology.
predicted the channel should start to see a return to growth in Q2 and given all the indicators we’ve seen that’s what we’d expect. Hopefully, the entire market can build further momentum from there. In terms of trends, we see continued investment and growth in migration to the cloud and hybrid infrastructures and cybersecurity. Often, these investments will form part of a wider digital transformation
