But still the price has come to a point where it is now cost effective for the masses. When an industry creates a product that you need day in, day out and at a price point that everyone can be involved, then you have hit the jackpot. The best part of my job is explaining to anyone I see that in some way they use UC&C every day. “I don’t use UC&C at all,” is something I often hear, yet in the same breath they tell me that they use WhatsApp, FaceTime, email and many more. This is all UC&C and is part of an industry that connects people via voice, video, instant messaging, email and much more. And guess what – most of us use it every day on a little device called a mobile phone! Huge opportunity When I consider my company’s role in UC&C we are in growing very fast. Unified communications and collaboration (or UC&C, as it’s more commonly known) is a whole plethora of technologies that companies and organisations implement to create real time collaboration solutions, that all work together smoothly and securely. When the market talks about UC&C, it’s all about certifications and platforms including IP telephony, instant messaging, desktop sharing, web conferencing, audio conferencing and video conferencing. However, UC&C is much more than that; before the major platforms took over our work and home life, there was already a whole industry focused on this dark art! Fax machines! Who remembers them? That was a technology that worked much like email does today! You sent and received data and information via a specific terminal. My family has roots going back some decades in UC&C and I can tell you the age of fax machines was huge! Now, due to other applications and technology advancements, fax machines could soon see the dustbin. Fax machines are just one of the many critical technologies that this industry was built on, but that will fade out over the coming years. However, innovation and development are the cornerstone of the world we live in.
