Chrome OS challenging Windows 10 Home Even before Windows 11 was launched in the last year, Windows 10 was fighting for its share of the limelight in personal computers. With its Pro versions selling at the top, Windows 10 was overtaken by Chrome OS in April of 2021, but then it fought back against its competitor to reclaim a lead, before Chrome came out on top again.

Graphics cards Among the leading players, Intel Iris Xe is taking over the baton from the Intel UHD family of graphics cards, quickly becoming a fan favourite. Its sales quickly grew from the start of 2021, overtaking the UHD in summer 2021 and continuing to pull away thereafter. Meanwhile, UHD sales have steadily declined, but some residual demand remains.

Design And finally, an interesting aesthetic shift seems to be happening in the notebook market. The UK seems to be burying its longstanding favouritism for black chassis to make space for a lighter (albeit only by a small amount) generation of computers, with grey and silver models are becoming user favourites.

In a different market segment, Apple and AMD are locked in a battle for dominance, having seen off the challenge of the previously big-selling Intel Iris Plus. AMD and Apple have swapped places several times in terms of biggest seller over the past two years, but AMD has largely held sway this year, although the sales figures again closed up over the summer months. Internal memory More tech workers are working remotely now than pre-pandemic, which means they require greater at-home processing power than previously. For developers and graphic designers who need that extra bit of oomph to make the magic happen, or just ordinary people who like to take advantage of quick read-write speeds, notebooks with 32MB internal memory has become a preferred option since
